Cosmetics
Although cosmetics were used long before, the etymological origin of the word, as we know it today, comes from Greek culture.
Actually, the word "cosmetic" is the combination of the noun "cosmos" (which means "beauty and order") and the suffix "-ico" (whose meaning is "relative").
This is how we refer to these substances used to improve or protect the appearance of our bodies. They are also used to alter our body odor. They do this by altering their appearance, without affecting their structures or functions.
As an example, we can find "makeup," which appeared as we know it today in 19th-century French theaters. This was the name given to the paint that actors applied to their faces before going on stage. The purpose of these paints was both to bleach the skin of the face and other visible parts of the body, highlighting them.
As incredible as it may seem, the use of cosmetics dates back thousands of years. In fact, the first references to the history of cosmetics date back to around 4000 BC. Specifically, the history of cosmetics dates back to the times of ancient Egyptian civilization.
